Our History

Where the Past Meets the Present and Inspires the Future

Wellington Lodge No. 784 stands among the oldest Lodges in East Kent, its history intertwined with that of the town of Deal and the wider Masonic community.

Consecrated in the nineteenth century, the Lodge was named in honour of the Duke of Wellington — a figure whose leadership and integrity reflected the principles at the heart of Freemasonry: courage, discipline, and service to others.

From its earliest days, the Lodge has been a constant presence in the local community. Its members, drawn from many walks of life, have shared a commitment to fellowship and charity that has endured through peace and hardship alike.

During both World Wars, brethren of Wellington Lodge served their country with distinction. At home, the Lodge extended support to families in need, cared for returning servicemen, and remembered with solemn gratitude those who did not return. In the years that followed, the spirit of service that had guided those times of trial became the foundation for new charitable work and community engagement.

Through the interwar and post-war decades, Wellington Lodge strengthened its ties with local and national Masonic causes. The Lodge contributed to the establishment of the Royal Masonic Hospital, supported the education of children orphaned by conflict, and participated in major charitable appeals within the Province of East Kent.

Today, the Lodge continues to meet in the town of Deal, upholding the same values of integrity, friendship, respect, and charity that have defined it for generations.

Its members remain dedicated to preserving the best of Masonic tradition while welcoming the spirit of modern fellowship, ensuring that the light of Wellington Lodge No. 784 continues to shine for the years ahead.
